FBI: Charlie Kirk’s Alleged Killer Had “Obsessive,” Ideologically Driven Motive
The FBI has revealed that Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, harbored a deep, ideologically driven obsession with his victim. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said Robinson viewed Kirk with intense hatred and had boasted about a “perfect murder plan.”
“It’s pretty clear from the digital evidence, family statements, and texts that [Robinson] had an obsession with Charlie Kirk,” Bongino told Fox News. “This was an ideologically motivated attack.” FBI Director Kash Patel also confirmed Robinson had sent a message before the shooting, stating he had “an opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk.” Investigators discovered forensic evidence of a written note echoing that same intent.
“There were multiple warning signs,” Bongino added. “Friends and family noted that he became more radical and political over time. People around him knew he was targeting Kirk.” Bongino said that subpoenas will be issued to determine who knew what and when, as the investigation expands.
Further evidence has strengthened the case. DNA matching Robinson was found on a towel wrapped around the rifle and on a screwdriver left in the sniper’s nest above the Utah Valley University venue. The bolt-action rifle believed to be the murder weapon is undergoing additional analysis.
Robinson remains in custody and is refusing to cooperate with authorities. However, his family and transgender partner have been assisting investigators. He is expected to be formally charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday, as law enforcement continues to examine his political motives and connections.
