Chris Pratt has responded to backlash after facing criticism for comments on the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Some fans even called for him to be removed from future Marvel projects.
Kirk, 30, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10 during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. Witnesses say he was struck in the neck by a single bullet and collapsed in his chair. Despite emergency medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
The FBI identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the alleged shooter. He remains in custody facing aggravated murder and weapons charges, and prosecutors have indicated they may seek the death penalty. Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika, and their two young children, who have received widespread sympathy.
Shortly after the news broke, Pratt posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Praying for Charlie Kirk right now, for his wife and young children, for our country. We need God’s grace. God help us.” While intended as a compassionate message, critics quickly accused him of political alignment with Kirk, triggering social media outrage.
Within hours, hashtags demanding Pratt’s removal from Marvel projects began trending. While some accused him of promoting a political agenda, others defended his right to express sympathy during a tragedy. Pratt later posted a video encouraging followers to pray, unplug from social media, and connect with loved ones. Reactions were mixed—some praised his sincerity, while others dismissed it as tone-deaf. Despite the backlash, there is no indication Marvel or other studios plan to cut ties with Pratt.
