Bill Maher Skewers Kamala Harris Over Memoir, 2028 Prospects
Liberal comedian Bill Maher took aim at former Vice President Kamala Harris during his HBO monologue on Friday, mocking her new memoir 107 Days and dismissing any chances she has of becoming the 2028 Democratic presidential nominee. Maher’s sharp critique centered on Harris’s portrayal of her failed 2024 campaign and what he called her “blame-everyone-but-me” narrative.
Harris is currently on tour promoting the book, which recounts her short-lived 2024 presidential run. Despite launching her campaign with over $1.5 billion in funding, widespread Democratic support, and favorable media coverage, Harris lost every major swing state and became the first Democratic nominee in decades to lose the national popular vote.
In 107 Days, Harris reportedly points fingers at several key figures. She writes that California Governor Gavin Newsom refused to endorse her, responding to her request with a brief text saying he was “hiking” and then going silent. Harris also laments that the country was not ready for a gay vice-presidential pick, referencing Pete Buttigieg, before ultimately selecting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz—whom she describes with ambivalence.
Maher ridiculed the memoir, suggesting it should have been titled Everyone Sucks But Me. He compared Harris to a rom-com lead left waiting for support that never came. “We made her the star of a rom-com and didn’t even give her a gay best friend,” he joked, mocking her perceived self-pity.
Despite the speculation, Harris has insisted she is not focused on another presidential run. In a recent interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, she ruled out both a 2028 campaign and a bid for California governor, saying she plans to focus on helping elect Democrats across the country.
