Stephen Miller Clashes With CNN Host Over Immigration, Racial Profiling Claims
White House advisor Stephen Miller dismissed accusations of racial profiling in immigration enforcement during a heated CNN interview with host Boris Sanchez. The clash came as Miller defended President Trump’s plan to deploy National Guard troops to protect ICE facilities in Illinois, a move Governor JB Pritzker condemned as an “invasion.”
Sanchez pressed Miller on claims that ICE was targeting people based on race. “Is this crackdown designed to go after people of color?” he asked. Miller responded sharply, “Oh, what a dumb question,” before arguing that illegal immigrants were harming American workers of all races by taking jobs, healthcare, and school placements, and committing crimes.
When Sanchez tried to clarify, Miller doubled down: “I said it was a dumb question. OK, no, and it was a dumb question.” The back-and-forth underscored the administration’s hardline immigration stance and its unwillingness to engage with claims of racial targeting in enforcement efforts.
The tension grew when Sanchez questioned Miller’s use of the term “terrorists” to describe ICE protesters. Miller claimed the demonstrators were far from peaceful, citing violent acts including ICE office attacks, vehicle-ramming incidents, and sniper fire. “If anything, I’m understating the severity of the situation,” he insisted, defending the administration’s characterization of the protests.
The exchange occurred amid a broader DHS crackdown. On Friday, ICE arrested Juan Espinoza Martinez, a Latin Kings gang member, for allegedly placing a $10,000 bounty on a senior U.S. Border Patrol official. He now faces federal charges for soliciting the murder of a government officer.
