Several prominent Antifa figures are reportedly fleeing the United States following President Donald Trump’s renewed crackdown on what he calls domestic terrorism. After Trump publicly labeled Antifa a terrorist threat and vowed to dismantle its networks, individuals like Mark Bray—a key Antifa theorist and assistant professor at Rutgers University—announced plans to leave the country. Bray, who has funded international Antifa operations and authored Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook, stated he is relocating to Europe, citing safety concerns.
Before his departure, Bray called for increased militancy, urging supporters to resist fascism by any means necessary. Despite facing criticism and a petition for his dismissal, Bray will continue teaching online courses on terrorism and antifascism. His academic work, including his widely circulated book, has long drawn scrutiny for openly endorsing far-left activism and resistance tactics.
Bray’s book profits partly fund Antifa International, a global network that provides legal aid, riot-related gear, and emergency relocation for affiliated activists. The organization has become a significant financial arm for Antifa operations worldwide, supporting groups like Atlanta Antifascists and Central Oregon Anti-Fascist Action. In response to recent political developments, Antifa International has shut down its U.S.-based fundraising infrastructure to shield donors and recipients from scrutiny.
This action coincides with reports that the Trump administration is considering formally designating Antifa as a foreign terrorist organization. Officials cite Antifa’s alleged operational and financial links to groups in Western Europe and the Middle East—connections U.S. intelligence agencies have reportedly monitored for months.
Trump made the announcement during a roundtable meeting with independent journalists, pointing to recurring Antifa violence in cities like Portland and Chicago. If the designation proceeds, it would mark the first time a domestic-based movement is labeled a foreign terrorist entity, enabling international sanctions, asset freezes, and cross-border investigations. “They’ve declared war on America,” Trump said. “Now we’re declaring it back.”
