Embattled New York Attorney General Letitia James Faces New Allegations Amid Indictment
New York Attorney General Letitia James, already under federal indictment for alleged bank fraud, is facing renewed scrutiny after reports emerged that she has been housing her fugitive grandniece in a Virginia home she owns.
According to the Daily Mail, Nakia Thompson — James’s grandniece — has lived rent-free with her children in James’s Norfolk, Virginia, property since 2020. Court records show Thompson is a wanted fugitive in North Carolina for violating her probation related to assault and trespassing convictions. Officials confirmed she is listed as an “absconder” and would be arrested if located in North Carolina. However, her offenses are considered low-level and non-extraditable.
Thompson testified in June that she does not pay rent or contribute to property upkeep. Her criminal record includes prior convictions dating back to 2005, including simple assault and threats against the government.
Meanwhile, James continues to fight federal charges of bank fraud and making false statements to secure the mortgage on the same Virginia home. She has denied all allegations, calling the case politically motivated and brought by a Trump-appointed prosecutor.
James previously made headlines for prosecuting former President Trump, securing a $474 million judgment against him for alleged mortgage fraud — a verdict that was recently overturned on appeal. The case is now pending before New York’s highest court. Critics claim James’s legal actions have been driven by political bias, while she maintains her commitment to justice and accountability.
