On Friday, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg extended a temporary restraining order blocking deportation flights under the Trump administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act.
This decision, which postpones the deportations until April 12, 2025, has drawn intense criticism from MAGA supporters. The Alien Enemies Act, a wartime law, grants the president authority to deport non-citizens deemed a threat, but it has sparked a legal battle between Boasberg and the administration.
Earlier this week, the Trump administration invoked the state secrets privilege to withhold information on the deportation flights and requested the Supreme Court vacate Boasberg’s orders. Trump has criticized Boasberg for his rulings, calling him “highly conflicted” and accusing him of harboring a personal bias. On Truth Social, Trump voiced his frustration, claiming that Boasberg’s involvement in multiple Trump-related cases was evidence of a biased, “rigged system” in the courts.
