Federal Judge James Boasberg is facing increasing criticism from President Donald Trump and his allies as he oversees several high-profile lawsuits targeting the Trump administration.
The scrutiny has extended to Boasberg’s personal and professional background, including his appointment to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court by Chief Justice John Roberts. Boasberg, who is also a former Yale roommate of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, has become a target for conservatives due to his rulings, such as blocking deportations of violent illegal immigrants and handling cases involving leaked government communications. Trump supporters argue these decisions show judicial bias.
Boasberg, a Washington, D.C. native, earned a graduate degree in Modern European History from Oxford before attending Yale Law School. He later worked in various legal roles, including as a judge appointed by both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. His assignment to the FISA Court and recent handling of Trump-related cases have led to intensified backlash.
