Aneurysm: Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore

Brain health is crucial for family well-being. Recognizing warning signs of brain conditions like aneurysms and seeking medical help quickly can prevent serious consequences.

What is a Brain Aneurysm?
A brain aneurysm occurs when a blood vessel in the brain weakens and forms a bubble. If it ruptures, it causes internal bleeding, which can be fatal. Even an unruptured aneurysm can press on brain structures and cause symptoms.

Key Symptoms:
The main sign is a sudden, severe headache, often described as the worst headache ever. Other symptoms include:

  • Drooping eyelids
  • Double or blurred vision
  • Seizures
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Stiff neck
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Numbness in the face
  • Ringing in the ears

If you notice any of these, seek immediate medical attention.

Risk Factors:
High blood pressure, smoking, heavy drinking, drug use, and family history increase the risk. Discuss preventive steps with your doctor if you have any of these factors.

Diagnosis & Treatment:
Doctors use CT scans, MRIs, or cerebral angiography to diagnose aneurysms. Treatment options include monitoring, surgery (clipping or endovascular embolization), or both, depending on the aneurysm’s size and risk.

Prevention:
Control blood pressure, avoid smoking and excessive alcohol, reduce stress, and keep up with regular health exams.
