Two high-profile special elections in Florida appear to be swinging in the GOP’s favor, as Republican operatives report “booming” turnout from Trump-aligned voters eager to help expand the party’s narrow majority in the U.S. House.
In Florida’s 6th Congressional District, State Sen. Randy Fine is running to replace former Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL). Despite the district’s strong R+14 lean, concerns have been raised about Fine, a first-time congressional candidate, due to his underwhelming fundraising compared to Democratic opponent Josh Weil.
Election forecaster Michael Pruser reported that voter turnout in the district has been promising for Fine, with early ballots showing a significant R+36 advantage. Fine has warned that a win for Weil would embolden Democrats to obstruct Trump’s agenda in the House.
Meanwhile, Weil has raised $10 million, far outpacing Fine’s $1 million, but Trump’s support is mobilizing the GOP base in the district.
