Russia releases statement after Donald Trump’s decision to stop military aid into Ukraine

Russia has responded to President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend all U.S. military aid to Ukraine. The announcement came after a tense meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The U.S. had previously been a major supporter of Ukraine, providing over $66.5 billion in aid under the Biden administration following Russia’s 2022 invasion.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov welcomed the U.S. decision, calling it “the best contribution to the cause of peace” and suggesting it could encourage Ukraine to engage in peace talks. Peskov also noted that this shift aligned with the Trump administration’s foreign policy vision.

Meanwhile, European leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, reaffirmed their support for Ukraine, with the UK committing additional aid and defense support. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing since February 2022.
