An internal memo reveals the Trump administration’s plan to significantly reduce government staffing, with major cuts at several departments.
The Treasury Department will cut its workforce by one-third, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will reduce its staff by half. The memo outlines reductions at the Small Business Administration (43%) and HUD (50%). The Education Department and the Justice Department will also face major cuts, with the Education Department reducing staffing by 50%, saving $6 billion. The National Science Foundation and the Commerce Department will experience 28% and 30% cuts, respectively.
Additionally, the Department of Health and Human Services plans to reduce 20,000 positions, saving $1.8 billion. Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. confirmed that critical services will not be impacted.
Elon Musk, leading the Department of Government Efficiency, emphasized reducing government waste, fraud, and inefficiency. Cabinet officials have expressed strong support for the cuts.
