The Senate confirmed Harmeet Dhillon, President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, despite a lone Republican dissent.
Dhillon, a Republican National Committee member, will have significant influence over civil rights prosecutions. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) was the only Republican to oppose her confirmation.
Dhillon, known for her work defending civil liberties through the nonprofit Center for American Liberty, has pledged to investigate “illegal and unconstitutional” diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies in corporate America.
Although she and Trump previously clashed over COVID-19, they reconciled ahead of her nomination. Dhillon emphasized a commitment to impartiality and constitutional principles, stating she would not use the division as a political tool but instead defend the civil rights of all Americans.
