Richard Grenell, a longtime Trump ally and former U.S. envoy, has hinted at a potential run for California governor if Kamala Harris enters the race, suggesting the Republican Party could challenge the state’s deep-blue dominance.
Grenell, who served as ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence, pointed out Harris’s vulnerabilities following her 2024 defeat to Trump, saying she has significant baggage. He believes this could give Republicans a shot at winning.
Although Grenell considered running in 2021, he did not file before the deadline but has remained politically active through his nonprofit, Fix California. Despite Harris winning California by over 20 points in 2024, recent disasters like wildfires have raised doubts about Democratic leadership.
Harris, however, has stayed quiet about her political future, offering only vague hints about a possible gubernatorial bid.
