White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt faced reporters’ questions about whether billionaire Elon Musk had received security clearance or passed a background check.
When asked by CNN’s Kaitlan Collins if Musk was a special government employee and about his security clearance, Leavitt confirmed he was a special government employee but stated she was unsure about his clearance, offering to check back.
Collins pressed further, asking if Musk had passed a background check, to which Leavitt responded, “I don’t know, but I can check.”
CNN later reported that Musk had been given top-secret security clearance. Leavitt’s responses came amid Musk’s involvement in government projects, including his efforts to rescue astronauts stranded in space, a mission initially delayed under the Biden administration.
