A new book claims that former President Barack Obama weakened the Democratic Party after his presidency. Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House, by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, argues that Obama left the party more fragile, focusing more on personal influence than party unity.
The authors state that Obama built his political network around a group of “Black professionals,” rather than reinforcing the broader Democratic infrastructure. They also highlight his creation of Organizing for Action in 2012, which competed with the Democratic Party for resources and influence.
After Obama left office, figures like the Clintons, Joe Biden, and Donna Brazile worked to rebuild the party’s traditional infrastructure and prevent far-left progressives from taking control. The book also discusses Obama’s hesitancy to support Kamala Harris in 2024.
