Poll: AOC Leads Schumer In New York Primary Matchup By Double Digits

A new poll for the 2028 New York Democratic primary shows Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leading Chuck Schumer by double digits, with 55% of likely voters supporting Ocasio-Cortez and 36% backing Schumer.

This comes as Schumer faces criticism from the far-left wing of his party, particularly after supporting a GOP funding bill to prevent a government shutdown.

The poll, conducted by the liberal firm Data for Progress, reflects growing dissatisfaction with Schumer’s leadership. Despite this, Schumer has defended his actions and maintained support within his Senate caucus.

If Ocasio-Cortez runs against Schumer, political analyst Mark Halperin suggests Schumer may have to step aside, citing her ability to challenge him effectively. However, some warn that such a primary battle could harm the Democratic Party.
