If you’re not careful, your car could be stolen without thieves needing your keys.
Modern car keys constantly transmit signals, allowing criminals to buy an original key and replicate the access code.
How to prevent this? The easiest way is to wrap your keys in aluminum foil. Alternatively, a Faraday bag, which blocks signals, can be bought online for a few dollars.
Cybersecurity expert Moshe Shlisel explains that aluminum foil creates a shield, blocking electromagnetic waves that could be used for theft. Despite seeming outdated, such precautions are becoming more necessary as these theft methods are becoming more common, with tools and tutorials available online.
The auto industry is aware of the problem and is working on ways to prevent this type of theft.
