Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been ordered to pay over $54,000 in attorney fees for violating Georgia’s Open Records Act.
The dispute arose from Willis’ office failing to provide records requested by defense attorney Ashleigh Merchant, representing Michael Roman, a former Trump aide indicted in the Georgia election interference case.
The court found Willis’ office was “openly hostile” and lacked good faith in handling the requests. This ruling is another setback for Willis, who has faced challenges, including being disqualified from prosecuting the case due to an “appearance of impropriety.”
A Georgia judge also recently ruled against Willis in another open records case. Willis now has 30 days to provide the requested records and pay the fees.
