President Trump urged House conservatives to support his legislative agenda after some GOP members opposed the proposed spending bill.
Speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee Dinner, Trump said, “They have to do this… Stop grandstanding.” His comments followed a meeting with House Republicans, where Florida Reps. Greg Steube and Byron Donalds expressed support. However, holdouts like Rep. Chip Roy and Rep. Andy Ogles remain opposed.
The disagreement stems from a gap in required spending cuts—$1.5 trillion in the House vs. $4 billion in the Senate. With Democrats united in opposition, Speaker Mike Johnson can only afford three Republican defections.
At the dinner, Trump also touted a $35.2 million fundraising haul, predicting a GOP landslide and calling the bill “big” and “beautiful,” adding, “It’s going to be legendary.”
