Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME), a Democrat from a pro-Trump district, has become a strong ally of President Donald Trump on tariff policy.
Golden, who represents a district Trump won by nine points, supports Trump’s recent move to impose broad tariffs and urged the president to stay the course.
Golden praised Trump’s 10 percent universal tariff, which mirrors his own proposal in the BUILT USA Act. He argued tariffs are a vital step to fixing trade deficits and protecting American jobs.
He emphasized pairing tariffs with policies that boost working-class prosperity, such as supporting unions, cutting regulations, and investing in domestic manufacturing.
Golden also warned his party that Democrats need to adapt to shifting economic realities. His stance contrasts with several Republicans pushing legislation to limit the president’s tariff authority.
