Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) criticized the Democratic Party for its lack of a unified response to former President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.
In an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl, Schiff said the missed opportunity allowed Trump to avoid scrutiny over rising living costs.
He also rejected strategist James Carville’s suggestion that Democrats “play dead,” urging instead for a bold agenda focused on economic relief. Schiff emphasized the need for better messaging and policy proposals, rather than relying on Trump’s failures.
Sen. John Fetterman also slammed the Democratic response, calling it a “sad cavalcade of self-owns.” During Trump’s speech, some Democrats protested with signs or walked out, while Rep. Al Green was removed for shouting.
Schiff warned such disjointed actions could weaken the party’s image ahead of the next election.
