House Passes Trump Agenda With ‘Big Beautiful Bill’

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) scored a major legislative win by passing a budget that incorporates key GOP tax priorities in a narrow 216-214 vote.

Only two Republicans—Reps. Thomas Massie and Victoria Spartz—opposed it, while no Democrats supported the bill, which includes permanent extensions of the 2017 tax cuts for 87% of Americans.

The bill represents a significant victory for President Trump, emphasizing his continued influence in uniting the GOP during his second term. The legislation also serves as a blueprint for deeper federal spending cuts, building on efforts by the Department of Government Efficiency, projected to save $1 trillion.

Trump personally lobbied lawmakers to ensure passage, and fiscal conservatives say Johnson committed to cutting $1.5 trillion from the FY2026 budget, though Senate Majority Leader John Thune hasn’t fully backed that figure.
