Six Dead in Hudson River Helicopter Crash, Including Family of Five

A sightseeing helicopter crashed into the Hudson River near Pier 40 Thursday afternoon, killing all six aboard—a pilot and a visiting family from Barcelona.

Victims include Agustin Escobar, a Siemens executive, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children, ages 4, 5, and 11. The helicopter had taken off from Wall Street Heliport and was returning after the pilot reported low fuel. Witnesses say the rotor detached mid-air before the aircraft crashed. “We’re devastated,” said Michael Roth, owner of New York Helicopter.
