Family killed in Hudson River helicopter crash seen in picture thought to be taken moments before tragic accident

A Spanish family of five from Barcelona has been identified as the victims of a fatal helicopter crash in New York on April 10.

The crash killed Agustín Escobar, a Siemens executive; his wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, a global energy manager; and their three children, aged 4, 5, and 11.

Moments after taking off for a tour, the helicopter reportedly broke apart mid-air and crashed into the Hudson River. Witnesses saw it fall upside down. Four victims died at the scene; two later died in the hospital.

The cause is under investigation. The tour company’s CEO said the pilot had radioed a return due to low fuel but never made it back.
