Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, introduced articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg for blocking the Trump administration’s deportation flights under the Alien Enemies Act.
Gill accused Boasberg of abusing power by halting the deportation of Venezuelan gang members, citing national security risks and executive overreach.
Trump invoked the 1798 law to remove members of Tren de Aragua, labeled a terrorist group. Trump supported Gill’s move, calling Boasberg a “Radical Left Lunatic” on Truth Social. Gill aims to proceed through the House Judiciary Committee.
The White House insists the judge’s injunction came after planes had already taken off. Critics argue the order was valid despite the timing. Boasberg defended his authority in court, questioning why his powers wouldn’t apply to a plane already airborne but still in international airspace.
