The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), overseen by Elon Musk, announced the cancellation of over 200,000 government credit cards as part of an initiative to simplify accounts and reduce administrative costs. This follows a Trump-issued executive order freezing agency credit cards for 30 days.
DOGE estimates there were 4.6 million federal cards and 90 million transactions in fiscal year 2024. A pilot audit of 16 agencies is underway, with progress noted in Health and Human Services and the Department of the Interior.
Civilian Defense Department employees face a $1 limit on travel cards, with exemptions for military operations. Trump praised Musk’s efforts to cut government waste and vowed to treat attacks on Tesla dealerships as domestic terrorism, promising harsh penalties.
Musk responded affirmatively, saying he would continue the crackdown.
