Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is under scrutiny after being referred to the DOJ by border czar Tom Homan, who accused her of aiding illegal immigrants in evading ICE.
In response, AOC sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi questioning whether she’s being investigated and warning against weaponizing the DOJ against elected officials. She defended her actions, which included hosting a bilingual “Know Your Rights” webinar and distributing legal information, as part of her constitutional duty.
AOC cited the First Amendment, arguing that educating the public does not constitute criminal conduct. Homan, however, claims her efforts may encourage illegal activity and interfere with ICE operations.
He emphasized concerns about public safety, including the presence of convicted offenders in her district. The controversy raises questions about free speech versus aiding lawbreaking, with AOC demanding transparency by March 5 regarding any ongoing investigations into her or her office.
