Mississippi Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann collapsed while presiding over the state Senate chamber in a surprising moment caught on video.
The 77-year-old Republican fell suddenly, prompting lawmakers to rush to his aid. Hosemann remained conscious as medical personnel attended to him.
His office later released a statement assuring the public that he was in good spirits and eager to return to work. The cause of the collapse is unclear. Hosemann, who has served as lieutenant governor since 2020, is crucial to Mississippi’s legislative priorities.
After the incident, he was seen walking independently to a vehicle and later to his office. Senate Finance Chairman Josh Harkins shared that Hosemann appeared in good spirits, even joking about the last bill before his collapse.
