A 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sending violent threats to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and her husband.
The Department of Justice says Aliakbar Mohammed Amin sent threatening texts between March 29 and April 1, including messages like “You and your family are going to die soon” and “America will burn.” He also allegedly threatened their Texas home and posted images online showing guns aimed at photos of Gabbard and her husband.
Amin was arrested in Lilburn, Georgia, on April 11 and is charged with transmitting interstate threats. Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. emphasized that threats against officials are not protected speech.
FBI agents also found a firearm during a search of his home. Authorities say they will aggressively prosecute such threats as serious federal crimes.
