Lawmakers on the Senate Judiciary Committee clashed during a heated confirmation hearing for Kash Patel, President Trump’s nominee to lead the FBI. Sen.
Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) challenged Patel’s qualifications, prompting a fiery defense in which Patel cited his record as a senior counterterrorism official.
Patel strongly denied allegations of political bias, stating, “Any accusations that I would put politics before the Constitution are grotesquely unfair.” He emphasized his support from over 300,000 law enforcement officers and vowed to depoliticize the FBI if confirmed.
His testimony came amid revelations from Sen. Chuck Grassley about alleged misconduct by an FBI agent with anti-Trump bias. The whistleblower claims raised concerns over the origins of the 2022 “Arctic Frost” investigation into Trump.
Patel said his leadership would restore fairness and integrity to federal law enforcement.
