White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended President Trump’s appointment of Dan Bongino as deputy FBI director, calling him a patriot committed to rooting out corruption.
Critics raised concerns that Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and conservative commentator, lacks current FBI ties.
Leavitt pushed back, saying his outsider status makes him a threat to Washington’s “swamp.” Bongino announced he’s stepping away from political commentary, saying it’s time to serve in a different role.
In a Truth Social post, Trump praised Bongino’s law enforcement background and passion for the country. Bongino thanked Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and FBI Director Kash Patel, saying he’s ready to restore fairness and law and order.
He called the role “the honor of a lifetime” and promised to implement a serious reform-focused mission.
