New York Attorney General Letitia James is facing fresh controversy as she hosts a high-dollar fundraiser just days after the Trump administration accused her of mortgage fraud.
A criminal referral has been sent to the Department of Justice, potentially leading to charges.
The fundraiser, supporting James’ 2026 re-election campaign, features tickets up to $18,000 and is hosted by progressive activists Rod Grozier and Rob Smith.
Allegations claim James misrepresented a Virginia property purchased in 2023 as her “principal residence,” despite serving as New York’s attorney general, which may violate state residency laws.
Documents reviewed suggest she declared the Virginia home as her main residence to secure favorable mortgage terms.
Additionally, James is accused of falsifying unit information on a Brooklyn property for financial gain under federal mortgage programs.
These revelations come shortly after her $454 million civil fraud judgment against the Trump administration.
