A 19-year-old college student, Owen McIntire, has been arrested for allegedly firebombing two Tesla Cybertrucks in Kansas City using homemade Molotov cocktails.
The Justice Department charged him with unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device and malicious damage to property.
Identified through surveillance and cell phone data, McIntire reportedly carried out the attack while home from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Attorney General Pamela Bondi warned future offenders they will face decades in prison.
The fire, set on March 17, destroyed two vehicles worth over $100,000 each. This is part of a wider pattern of vandalism against Tesla amid backlash over Elon Musk’s government role.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed this is the second Tesla-related arrest that week, calling such acts dangerous and promising continued prosecution.
