Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan denied a request from four Mexican nationals seeking to delay deportation, siding with the Trump administration.
The family, who fled Guerrero, Mexico, in 2021 after threats from the Los Rojos cartel, claimed they faced violence if returned.
Despite their testimony and evidence, an immigration judge, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and the Ninth Circuit Court upheld the deportation. Kagan denied the emergency appeal without comment. Their attorney argued the deportation order ignored serious danger.
Separately, legal analyst Kerri Urbahn criticized Chief Judge James Boasberg for holding Trump officials in contempt after the Supreme Court overturned his order involving a deported MS-13 member. She suggested Boasberg’s actions appeared desperate and performative, especially since the Supreme Court ruled jurisdiction belonged in Texas, not D.C.
