House Speaker Mike Johnson has named Rep. Elise Stefanik as Chairwoman of the House Republican Leadership for the 119th Congress.
Stefanik had been nominated for U.N. Ambassador but withdrew at former President Donald Trump’s request. Trump said her resignation would risk passing key legislation due to the GOP’s slim House majority.
Stefanik will play a vital role in advancing Trump’s America First agenda, overseeing the budget resolution and serving on the Steering Committee, Armed Services, and Education and Workforce Committees. She expressed her honor in leading efforts to secure the border, boost the economy, and fight antisemitism.
Trump praised Stefanik’s loyalty and leadership, emphasizing the importance of unity in Congress. Johnson also commended her decision to remain, calling it a selfless act to help enact Trump’s legislative goals.
