A new CNN report by analyst Harry Enten reveals a major political shift under President Trump, showing Republicans have replaced Democrats as the “party of the people.”
During a segment with Kate Bolduan, Enten explained that traditionally, Democrats led in polls asking which party cares more about people’s needs. But now, it’s a tie. In 2005, Democrats led by 23 points; in 2017, by 13. Today, that lead has vanished, especially among non-college voters—now favoring Republicans by nine points.
Democrats maintain an 18-point lead among college-educated voters, indicating a shift in base. Enten noted this could impact the next midterms, where Republicans still hold an edge.
The data suggests a durable political realignment, with working-class Americans increasingly aligning with the GOP, despite Trump’s controversial tariff policies.
