President Donald Trump criticized the media for focusing on Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a deported Salvadoran national, while largely ignoring the story of Rachel Morin, a Maryland woman murdered by an illegal immigrant in 2023.
Trump made the remarks during a swearing-in ceremony for Dr. Mehmet Oz as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He accused the press of downplaying the emotional testimony of Morin’s mother, Patty Morin, calling her an “Angel Mom” and praising her courage.
Trump defended Abrego Garcia’s deportation, calling him a violent MS-13 member despite a 2019 court order barring removal due to alleged fears of persecution.
The case is now back in court, with a federal judge ordering the administration to show steps taken to return Garcia. Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele rejected the idea of taking Garcia back, calling it “preposterous.”
