The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) revealed that a nonprofit tied to a former Biden transition official received millions in federal funds for a migrant housing facility that remains unused.
Family Endeavors, awarded a contract for a Pecos, Texas site, saw its assets jump from $8.3 million in 2020 to over $520 million by 2023, fueled by federal money. Since March 2024, the nonprofit reportedly received $18 million monthly to operate the empty facility. Photos show idle golf carts and untouched dining areas.
HHS later terminated the contract, saving taxpayers $215 million annually.
DOGE also flagged a second case involving a group linked to Stacey Abrams receiving $2 billion from the EPA for clean energy projects—despite reporting just $100 in revenue last year.
Critics cite both cases as examples of waste and political favoritism.
