President Trump reaffirmed his support for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth amid controversy over leaked Signal messages related to a March raid on Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis.
Hegseth reportedly shared sensitive details in an unclassified chat with his wife, brother, and lawyer.
Trump dismissed the scandal, calling it a “witch hunt,” and blamed national security advisor Mike Waltz for mistakenly adding a journalist to the chat. Despite calls from Democrats for Hegseth to resign, Trump defended him, emphasizing the raid’s success and denying any classified information was shared.
Hegseth insisted he only gave general updates, not “war plans.” Senator Marco Rubio also stated no classified info was involved.
Critics, including Senators Gallego and Kelly, argue Hegseth endangered troops and should resign over his “incompetence and cover-up.”
