Despite swirling rumors about the 2028 race, Vice President JD Vance is emerging as the GOP front-runner. According to The New York Post, insiders believe Vance’s role as RNC finance chair and his alignment with Trump make him the likely successor.
“He’ll establish himself as the GOP’s future if fundraising and 2026 results go well,” one source noted. Strategist Dennis Lennox even said, “It’s absurd to think Vance won’t be the nominee.”
Though no one has officially declared, Vance may face primary challenges from Mike Pompeo and Nikki Haley. On the Democratic side, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, and Josh Shapiro are seen as potential contenders.
Trump hasn’t endorsed Vance but called him “very capable,” while Vance focuses on proving himself over the next four years.
