Holly Paz, a former IRS official linked to the Obama-era Tea Party targeting scandal, is now leading the IRS’s Large Business and International Division, sparking controversy.
Paz previously served under Lois Lerner during the 2012 scrutiny of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. Though placed on leave in 2013, she has now been promoted under the Biden administration. The American Accountability Foundation, a conservative watchdog, is calling for her dismissal, citing ongoing concerns about political bias and trust in the IRS.
Paz’s division handles tax administration for major domestic and international firms and oversees global wealth compliance. Meanwhile, the IRS faces further criticism over a $15 billion-over-budget modernization program, delayed by over 30 years. Tech consultant Sam Corcos revealed the agency still runs on outdated systems. Critics argue this inefficiency, along with Paz’s reinstatement, undermines public confidence in the IRS.
