Migrants Continue Trek Back To Home Countries Under Trump

Under President Donald Trump’s renewed border policies, many migrants who once sought entry under former President Joe Biden’s approach are now turning back or abandoning plans to come.

Trump reinstated measures like “Remain in Mexico” and ended “catch and release,” resulting in stricter enforcement and a sharp drop in illegal crossings. Migrants are deterred by increased border security, mass deportations, and Mexico’s cooperation under U.S. pressure.

In Honduras, officials report groups reversing course due to dangers along the route and heavy security. Asylum seekers are now often denied the chance to present claims.

In February, migrant encounters dropped to 303 daily, compared to 8,000 under Biden. Only 6% of migrants encountered in early weeks of Trump’s return were allowed to stay, mainly due to medical needs or legal exceptions.
