The U.S. Supreme Court rejected a case brought by 19 Republican-led states, including Alabama, that aimed to stop lawsuits from Democratic-led states against major oil companies like Exxon, Shell, and BP.
These states accused the companies of misleading the public about fossil fuels’ role in climate change.
The conservative states argued only the federal government should regulate emissions. However, the Supreme Court declined to hear the case. The Biden administration opposed the lawsuit, calling it baseless. Democratic states said their cases were about deceptive practices, not regulating energy.
The Court also ruled 7-2 that the Veterans Court doesn’t need to re-evaluate all evidence in disability claims unless a clear error exists, a decision criticized by veterans’ advocates who said it favors the VA over protecting veterans’ rights.
