Trump Targets ActBlue in Major Election Finance Crackdown
President Donald Trump has signed a directive ordering Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s main fundraising platform, over alleged foreign donations.
The memo follows GOP accusations that ActBlue lacks sufficient donor verification safeguards, potentially allowing noncitizens to illegally contribute.
Trump’s move builds on a congressional probe led by Rep. Bryan Steil, who criticized ActBlue for not requiring CVV numbers for donations. Although ActBlue has since adopted tighter rules, Republicans say the reforms are too late.
ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace-Jones condemned the action as politically motivated. The platform insists it complies with all laws.
Critics have cited reports of fraudulent donations and fake donor identities, sparking calls for deeper scrutiny. If wrongdoing is found, the investigation could lead to major legal consequences, raising stakes for Democratic fundraising operations ahead of the 2026 elections.
