Rachel Maddow Gets Brutal News From MSNBC Executives

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow received more bad news after criticizing the network’s decision to cancel Joy Reid’s and Alex Wagner’s shows.

The changes are part of a broader programming revamp, which also saw weekend hosts like Katie Phang and Ayman Mohyeldin cut.

Maddow expressed deep disappointment, especially over the loss of Reid, calling it “indefensible” that both non-white primetime hosts were let go. Shortly after, Maddow was told some of her production team would be reassigned or laid off, though her executive producer remains.

Meanwhile, MSNBC’s ratings have continued to slide. In Q1 2025, CNN’s News Central outpaced Morning Joe in the key demographic for the first time in years. Overall, MSNBC saw significant viewer losses, while Fox News surged ahead, maintaining its lead in cable news ratings.
