Federal authorities arrested Wisconsin Judge Hannah Dugan for allegedly helping an undocumented immigrant evade ICE agents at the Milwaukee County Courthouse.
The immigrant, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, was wanted by federal authorities.
Judge Dugan is accused of deliberately misdirecting agents, allowing Ruiz to temporarily escape arrest. FBI Director Kash Patel stated the judge’s actions endangered public safety, though Ruiz was later apprehended.
Dugan now faces federal charges of obstruction and concealing a person from arrest. CNN covered the arrest live, calling it “aggressive” and “significant.” Anchor Wolf Blitzer and correspondent Kaitlin Polantz highlighted the unusual nature of arresting a sitting judge.
The incident has reignited debate over immigration enforcement, with critics accusing media outlets of sympathizing more with undocumented individuals than with law enforcement or American citizens.
