Donald Trump has long hinted at the idea of running for office again—this time for a third term.
Despite the 22nd Amendment clearly limiting presidents to two terms, Representative Andy Ogles has proposed a change allowing a third run if non-consecutive terms are involved.
While Trump and his allies suggest the amendment could be reinterpreted due to the gap between his presidencies, public opinion paints a different picture. A new Pew Research Center poll shows his approval rating has dropped to 40%, and a Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 75% of Americans do not want him to run again.
Even among Republicans, more than half oppose a third term. Though Trump remains influential, the idea of a third presidency appears out of step with most of the American public.
