First 2028 Contender On Running for President: ‘I’ll Leave The Door Open’

Stephen A. Smith, ESPN commentator, has been considering a 2028 presidential run since his name appeared in a poll earlier this year.

In interviews, Smith said he’s keeping the door open after encouragement from politicians, billionaires, and even his pastor, but emphasized he’s not a politician and isn’t eager to take a pay cut or face intense public scrutiny. He joked about the downside of the presidency but acknowledged he might run if no strong candidates emerge, especially from the Democratic Party. Smith has criticized both major parties—calling out Democrats for inaction and Trump for flawed policies—and said he felt misled after supporting Kamala Harris in 2024 without a proper primary.
