His whole body was itchy, he thought it was an allergy and was diagnosed

Hives, or urticaria, are itchy, raised welts that may sting or hurt.

On lighter skin, they appear pink or red, while on darker skin, they might be skin-toned or slightly darker or lighter. Most hives result from allergic reactions to food, medication, or environmental triggers.

Histamines released during an allergic reaction cause swelling and itching. However, hives can also result from stress, tight clothing, illness, infections, temperature changes, or sweating.

People with allergies or infections are more at risk. Chronic hives may last over six weeks, with symptoms like itchy welts, swelling around the face, and flare-ups from heat or stress.

Mild cases can be treated with antihistamines like Benadryl or Zyrtec, cool baths, and avoiding hot water. See a doctor if symptoms persist or worsen. Emergency care is essential if hives are part of a severe allergic reaction with difficulty breathing or swelling of the face or throat.
